Jamaica

The island is home to a wide array of ALL INCLUSIVE accommodations and resort chains.  There are also a number of small boutique hotels (not all-inclusive) for those looking for something a little more quiet, intimate and away from your usual all inclusive resort-style vacations.

Although the coconut palms sway to the reggae beat and the island is very laid back, there are endless activities for those looking for a little more adventure. Enjoy a hike through the hills of the Blue Mountain and tour the coffee plantations, climb the lagoons and waterfalls of Dunn’s River, explore the island’s ecological treasures from limestone cave labyrinths and gushing waterfalls to mineral springs with curative powers or perhaps a round of golf on one of the island’s world championship golf courses is your cup of ‘tee’. And be sure to experience a scenic river cruise down the Rio Grande on a bamboo raft just the two of you – very romantic!

Montego Bay, Negril and Ocho Rios are considered the ‘tourist’ areas and where most of the resort hotels are located. More than likely, when booking a Jamaica vacation package, you will fly into Montego Bay and then be transferred to your hotel from the airport. Negril and Ocho Rios are each about a 1 to 1 ½ hour drive from the Montego Bay airport.

Mexico

Mayan Riviera

Looking for classy, sophisticated and quietly romantic? The Riviera Maya seems to be the most popular Mexican destination for weddings and part of that is due to the incredible resorts choices. It is a little less flashy than the fast pace of Cancun but more famous for its large scale all inclusive resorts – the kind that have absolutely everything so most tend to stay right on the resort. There are some great day trips for those looking to do a little sightseeing or take an excursion.

Tulum offers the perfect blend of total relaxation and seclusion mixed with little interesting activities to experience. The Mayan ruins are undoubtedly one of the most spectacular settings of any city past or present and one of Tulum’s greatest attractions. ‘Tulum’ meaning “Wall” in Maya, is one of the very few ancients ever built and one of the best preserved coastal Maya sites.

We highly recommend a visit to the parks at Xel-Ha and Xcaret located north of Tulum. Xel-Ha is Mayan for ‘clear water’ and the park is a series of interconnected crystal clear-water lagoons and a natural habitat for many including angelfish, lobster, barracudas and parrotfish. After some swimming and snorkeling fun, relax in a comfy hammock shaded by coconut palms, then head off for a bite to eat at one of the park’s five restaurants. The park also provides lockers, showers and changing rooms.

‘Xcaret’ or “small inlet” also has Mayan ruins but the big feature here is the Xcaret Eco Theme Park. Sure there are the rides as in any other theme park, but add an awesome waterpark, underground river systems to explore, dolphin swim and even a beach – makes for a great day trip.
